Helping Feed New York’s Hungryclose
Toyota teamed up with the Community Kitchen & Food Pantry in West Harlem, New York City to help serve their clients faster and better — using the techniques of our production system. The Kitchen provides more than 50,000 free meals each month in West Harlem. The sheer volume often meant there was a long wait time for the Kitchen’s hungry clients, sometimes as long as 75 minutes each day. Our Toyota Production System Support Center (TSSC) team worked with the Kitchen to apply the principles of the Toyota Production System (TPS) to the way it prepares and serves its meals. Now, what used to be a 75-minute line has been reduced to a much more efficient 18 minutes, and hungry New Yorkers are receiving the food they need - sooner.
Since 1992, TSSC has been sharing the techniques of TPS to help companies and organizations across the country increase efficiencies, streamline processes, and better serve their customers. TSSC recently launched a national program to support up to 20 community and non-profit organizations across the U.S. — using TPS to help improve their operations, extend their reach and increase their impact.
