Old Faithful Earns LEEDclose
Yellowstone National Park is renowned for its pristine beauty. When a building is constructed there, it should be done right. So when Yellowstone was building a new visitors' center, their goal was certification by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) organization. To help the park, Toyota stepped in and offered a $1 million donation towards the project, along with the assistance of experienced LEED certified engineers who shared their knowledge of green construction. While Yellowstone initially targeted earning a Silver LEED certification, the design team worked towards and ultimately earned a Gold certification with Toyota’s encouragement. The new visitors' center uses recycled and renewable building materials, low-flow plumbing and state-of-the-art electrical systems, and requires minimal heating during the cold months.
