TogetherGreen Supports Majestic Red River Recovery Effortsclose
North Dakota’s Red River is famous for its majestic beauty, but also for causing recent flood damage. With a TogetherGreen Innovation Grant, Audubon Dakota helped the Red River and neighboring communities recover from the floods and prevent future damage, by working with landowners and local leaders to create wetlands, nature’s own best tool to prevent flood damage. Audubon also sponsored events with the local community, such as a tree planting, which restores the riverbanks and protects them in the future.
TogetherGreen, a partnership between Audubon and Toyota, aims to provide inspiration, leadership and opportunities that motivate people everywhere to take action at home, in their communities and beyond, to improve the health of our environment. In 2008, Audubon and Toyota launched the initiative to support conservation projects, train environmental leaders, and offer volunteer opportunities that significantly benefit the environment. Funded by a $20 million Toyota gift to Audubon, the largest in the conservation group’s long history, TogetherGreen is now active in 182 cities in 49 states.
