Toyota and Audubon Take Joplin Kids to Summer Campclose
Following the devastating tornado that hit Joplin in May 2011, Toyota and the National Audubon Society helped establish a summer camp to serve local children and their parents. Through a special grant from TogetherGreen — a partnership between Audubon and Toyota — the local Wildcat Glades Audubon Center created positive experiences with nature for kids, while giving their parents much-needed time to focus on repairing the damage done to their homes. The Center also provided free trees to recovering neighborhoods, complete with birdhouses the campers made using lumber reclaimed from the tornado.
TogetherGreen aims to provide inspiration, leadership and opportunities that inspire people everywhere to take action at home, in their communities and beyond, to improve the health of our environment. In 2008, Audubon and Toyota launched the initiative to support conservation projects, train environmental leaders, and offer volunteer opportunities that significantly benefit the environment. Funded by a $20 million Toyota gift to Audubon, the largest in the conservation group’s long history, TogetherGreen is now active in 182 cities in 49 states.
