Toyota and Greener Plantsclose
At Toyota, we believe “greener” automobiles should come from “greener” automobile plants. Worldwide, Toyota has designated six manufacturing facilities as model sustainable plants, including Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Mississippi (TMMMS), our newest plant here in the U.S. Sustainable plants are designed to fully utilize natural resources while existing in harmony with the environment. There are three key steps these model plants take: developing and introducing low-carbon production technologies; using renewable energy; and helping preserve the local environment by planting trees at their sites.
TMMMS includes an innovative assembly line incorporating renewable energy sources, such as biomass, solar, and wind power, to reduce harmful emissions. Among its many sustainability initiatives, the new plant will maintain robust programs aimed at reducing water consumption and utilizing recyclable products. TMMMS is also targeted to become a zero-landfill facility, bringing the total number of Toyota plants in the U.S. to achieve zero-landfill status to seven.
