Toyota TAPESTRY: Rewarding Innovation in Science Educationclose
In 2010, Toyota and the National Science Teachers Association celebrated the 20th anniversary of their partnership, Toyota TAPESTRY. As the largest grant program of its kind in the country, TAPESTRY awards $500,000 in classroom grants annually to middle and high school educators. The grants are given in recognition of innovative teaching projects in three categories: environmental education, physical science, and integrating literacy and science education. While there are many funding sources available at the collegiate level, the Toyota TAPESTRY program is designed to provide a unique source of support for teachers who have an early influence on students and can inspire young people to pursue careers in the sciences. As of 2010, the TAPESTRY program has awarded nearly $10 million to 1,147 teams of teachers nationwide, including here in Flandreu.
